Who is eligible for Home health services?

If a patient needs home health care services such as skilled nursing, speech therapy, occupational therapy and/or rehabilitation care at home, these skilled services can be covered by Medicare without any additional enrollment such as an HMO plan. The care can be provided in the patient’s home or anywhere else he or she stays. The patient will need to meet the following  requirements to qualify for home care services:

– Home-bound status : Medicare covers home cara as long as the patient is unable to leave home without assistance

Recovery Period – Medicare covers home care only while the patient is actively recovering, which means while his or her condition is improving. An episode usually last 60 days from the beginning of care.

– Medicare-approved Agency – Medicare only covers home care provided by a Medicare-certified home healthcare agency.
